Where Faith, Reason, and Humanity Meet—The 6th Symposium on Canon Law in Vranov

12.12.2025

At the end of September, we hosted the 6th Symposium on Canon Law in Vranov u Brna. Four days filled with scholarly lectures, prayer, and personal conversations demonstrated that canon law is not merely a collection of legal provisions, but above all a path to truth, justice, and peace in the human heart.

Where Law and Spirit Meet
From September 21–24, 2025, the 6th Symposium on Canon Law was held at our Spiritual Center in Vranov u Brna. For several days, our facilities served as a home for 127 participants from the Czech Republic and Slovakia—lawyers, theologians, judicial vicars, religious, and laypeople—all united by a desire for a deeper understanding of justice in the Church and in life.
The symposium was held under the patronage of Bishop Pavel Konzbul of Brno and was opened by the Academy’s president, Monsignor Karel Orlita, who noted in his opening remarks that justice is the foundation of every true relationship—including the relationship with God.

Scholarly Lectures and Personal Testimonies
Over the course of four days, a series of inspiring lectures and discussions took place, and several working groups met. Key topics included marital capacity, issues of identity, responsibility, and grace from both legal and spiritual perspectives.
Among those who presented expert contributions were Mons. Juan Ignacio Arrieta (Secretary of the Dicastery for Legislative Texts), Mons. Paolo Bianchi, Prof. Cesare Maria Cornaggia, Prof. Francesco Catozzella, Mons. Paweł Malecha, Mons. Gian Paolo Montini, Rev. Matteo Visioli, JUDr. Tomáš Langášek, LL.M., and ThDr. Remigiusz Piotr Górski OFM.

The Spiritual Dimension of Law
Canon law, however precise and technical it may be, touches the very core of the human soul. During the symposium, we experienced together that justice and mercy are not opposites, but two paths leading to a single goal—love, which heals and unites.
Daily liturgy, prayer, and moments of silence accompanied the academic program and gave it the necessary depth. Thus, even amid scholarly discussions and arguments, there remained space for a personal encounter with God.

A Space for Friendship and Sharing
The symposium was not merely a cold, academic event. These were days filled with encounters, friendship, and open dialogue, during which understanding and mutual respect blossomed among the participants.
For us at Vranov, it was both a joy and a challenge—to provide a setting where knowledge, faith, and humanity could come together. Everyone who spent these days with us brought their own story, experience, and prayer into our home.

Thank you, and we look forward to the next time
We thank everyone who contributed to the preparation and conduct of the symposium, as well as those who brought their expertise and their hearts.
We are grateful that the Spiritual Center in Vranov u Brna could be part of this exceptional gathering—a bridge between the world of law and the world of faith.
We are overjoyed that the 7th Symposium on Canon Law will take place again in September 2027 here at the Spiritual Center—a place where the word, silence, and community remain alive.
